Samson Supernova was just a few months old when he was surrendered to the Rescue by his breeder. The breeder noticed Samson's chronic respiratory issues and his inability to breath well.
For months, we followed the advice of our terrific veterinarians and sought out the answer to why Samson couldn’t breath unless his mouth was propped open. He had been on numerous rounds of antibiotics to clear up chronic upper respiratory issues.
Finally, Samson received a CT scan that showed he has a congenital nasopharyngeal stenosis, an extremely rare condition. Surgical correction has a very high risk of complications that would lower his quality of life.
Due to his condition, Samson can’t breathe through his nose, but that doesn’t stop our special boy! He has adapted and figured out ways to sleep comfortably over the last year. What used to be a struggle and me continually propping his mouth open is now pretty effortless due to how smart Samson is. He began by sleeping with toys in his mouth, to docking his mouth on special beds, to now sleeping in a chewy box every night snoring away peacefully.
